Deanna D’Amore, Norwalk’s Health Director Recognized as a Rising Leader in Public Health

(Norwalk, Conn.) Today, September 7, 2023, Mayor Rilling announced that Deanna D’Amore, the Director of the Norwalk Health Department has been recognized as one of the 40 Under 40 in Public Health by the de Beaumont Foundation. After reviewing nominations from hundreds of professionals working to benefit state or local public health across the United States, the de Beaumont Foundation announced that Deanna D’Amore was selected as a member of their Class of 2023.

“Deanna D’Amore has been an outstanding leader in the City of Norwalk,” said Mayor Rilling. “She led our Health Department’s efforts through the pandemic and directed our national accreditation process, leading Norwalk to be the first local Health Department in CT to achieve accreditation in 2014 and then reaccredited in 2022. The City of Norwalk couldn’t be luckier to have her on our team.” 

“The professionals chosen for the 40 Under 40 in Public Health Class of 2023 demonstrate the determination, commitment, innovation, and resilience of the public health field,” said Brian C. Castrucci, DrPH, president and CEO of the de Beaumont Foundation, which launched the program in 2019. “Their work is strengthening communities and improving lives, and I look forward to following their careers and learning from them.” 

“Deanna has led staff through major shifts in our department, including large staffing changes, reaccreditation, data modernization, and a global pandemic,” said members from the Norwalk Board of Health in a statement. “We are thankful to the de Beaumont Foundation for this recognition, which reflects the dedication and contributions of all our employees, volunteers, and Board members to improve the health of community members throughout Norwalk.”

In addition to Deanna D’Amore, the program’s honorees include epidemiologists, program managers, researchers, and policy analysts in state, local, and territorial health departments, colleges and universities, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector. The class of 2023 was selected by a distinguished panel of public health professionals and looked at candidate’s leadership skills and overall impact on their community’s health.

Their tools and resources have helped the Norwalk Health Department continue to evolve to meet the needs of our community and have helped me to grow as a public health professional. I am so thankful for this opportunity to continue to learn from them and the incredible group of fellow honorees who are doing great work across the nation.”
