Funding & Purpose

In 2007, the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency compiled a citywide inventory of potential brownfields. The inventory was funded via a brownfield assessment grant awarded to the agency by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2006.

The inventory is citywide but with particular focus on the city’s core redevelopment areas including:

• Reed Putnam
• South Norwalk / Webster Block
• Wall Street Redevelopment Areas
• West Avenue

Information Sources

The inventory was developed utilizing public information that was readily available, including:

• Available environmental reports
• Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CTDEP) records
• Federal and state environmental databases
• Input from the Brownfields Task Force
• Municipal information
• Sanborn fire insurance maps

Updating the Inventory

Since current environmental conditions for inventoried properties are not entirely known, and inclusion is based solely on available public information, the inventory is meant to be a work-in-progress and will be updated as property-specific information becomes available.
