Unit Functions

The Mountain Bike Unit is a group of officers trained and equipped to patrol the City of Norwalk on specially-equipped mountain bikes.

The bike officers are utilized primarily in the Community Policing function, as well as regular patrol duties as manpower permits, to patrol high-crime areas and/or densely populated residential or commercial areas.

The bikes allow officers the contact with the citizenry that traditional walking patrols accomplished, while also providing the ability to quickly and safely respond to calls in and around the surrounding area.
