Stray Dog Protocol

Dogs that create a nuisance to the public are subject to laws and fines. Residents may report a stray dog to Animal Control at (203) 854-3240, between 7:30 am and 3:00pm.

Animals that are brought to the shelter, located at 13 South Smith Street, are cared for until their owner is contacted. If the animal is not wearing identification, they will be held for a period of eight days and then put up for adoption.

For issues concerning wildlife intrusion, whether to make a complaint or for more information, please call the shelter at (203) 854-3240 during normal business. The Norwalk Police Department may also be contacted at (203) 854-3240 for emergencies after regular business hours.
