Responsibilities
The Marine Unit operates year round, with increased staffing during the summer boating months. The unit maintains three boats.
In addition to routine patrol of the waterways, the unit monitors the signs and markings in the harbor area, works closely with commercial fisherman, and enforces shellfish violations.
Program Details
The Marine Unit responds to over 250 assistance calls and - in addition to the numerous written and verbal warnings that are issued - makes over 100 arrests each year for a variety of offenses. The unit often works in conjunction with the United States Coast Guard among other public and private water and boating safety organizations.
The Marine Unit supervisor also commands the department's Scuba Unit.
