Types of Rescue Services
The
Norwalk Fire Department responds to various technical rescue incidents in the city and as mutual aid for other towns. The heavy rescue company, known as Rescue 2, is equipped to handle:
- Confined space rescues
- High angle rescues
- Industrial entrapments
- Motor vehicle accidents
- Surface water rescues
Tactical Rescue Company
The tactical rescue company is also equipped for and responds to larger incidents such as:
- Structural collapses
- Tractor-trailer accidents
- Trench rescues
Training
Firefighters spend many hours in
training on these potential technical rescue situations. Each firefighter receives training annually because of the high-risk factors these rescues possess.
Additionally, the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires yearly firefighter training on some types of rescues because of potential dangers. Many times, these rescues must be handled as
hazardous materials responses.
