Trailer

The Norwalk Fire Department's hazardous materials (HazMat) company is a combined hazardous materials and foam trailer. Designated as HazMat 2, it responds to HazMat calls both within the Norwalk city limits and as a member of the Fairfield County Hazardous Materials Team.

Fairfield County Hazardous Materials Team

The Fairfield County Hazardous Materials Team provides technician-level hazardous material response to 13 municipalities in lower Fairfield County. Norwalk and other municipalities provide and receive assistance from this team under a mutual aid agreement.

In addition, the Norwalk Fire Department continues to train several HazMat technician-level responders to assist the Fairfield County Hazardous Materials Team.

Amenities

HazMat 2 contains a complete inventory of materials to help resolve most hazardous incidents. Its contents include:

• A generator
• Approximately 500 gallons of foam in five-gallon containers
• Booms
• Drums
• Level A and B suits
• Meters
• Pads

The trailer portion of the vehicle was donated by Pepsi Bottling Company and refurbished by the Norwalk Fire Department Apparatus Maintenance Division.
