The Signal Section consists of a Traffic Engineer, Traffic Supervisor, Traffic Signal Technician, and Traffic Signal Mechanic. In addition to the regular traffic signal operations, the Traffic Supervisor and his crew have taken over maintenance of the equipment being installed as a part of the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) for the City of Norwalk.
The Traffic Signal Section currently performs the following generalized duties:
- Managing the Traffic Signal Operation Center
- Traffic Signal Design
- Traffic Signal Timing Design
- Communication System Design
- Traffic Signal Maintenance
- Communication System Maintenance
- School Flasher Maintenance
- Signal Inventory Maintenance
The Signal Section currently performs maintenance and installation of the following equipment:
- 79 Traffic Signals
- 2 School Flashers
- 79 Opticom preemption system
- 20 miles of communications cable (Copper and Fiber)
- Old LMD close loop system and new Naztec Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) related equipment, including video monitoring cameras, video detection, and ATMS central software
The Traffic Signals Section maintains a computerized inventory of the devices and traffic signal equipment using Naztec Asset Management as part of ATMS.NOW. This database is maintained regularly to keep an up-to-date log of field inventory. In addition, the Traffic Signals Section is working on developing an inventory for equipment in the shop.
